Drift Check

Your idea was original when you checked it. Is it still? An originality check tells you where your idea stands on the day you run it. But the world keeps publishing. Drift Check keeps looking after you have stopped.

What it does

Drift Check watches one of your projects and re-searches for new work on a schedule you choose: every week, every two weeks, or every month. Each run searches only for things published or updated since the last run, so it reports what is actually new, not what you already knew about.

What you get back

Facts, not opinions. Each run lists the new items it found, what each one is, and how it relates to your idea: the same mechanism, or the same premise done differently. When nothing new turns up, it tells you that too, with the exact dates it covered. Each run’s results arrive by email and are saved as a chat inside your project, so your history builds up in one place.

An example

You are six months into writing a novel. On its next run, Drift Check finds a book that search dates as published or updated since your last run. The email tells you what it is, the date the search gives it, and how it relates to your idea — the same mechanism as your protagonist’s central conflict, say, or the same premise done differently.

That is where the run stops: it reports facts. The result is saved as a chat in your project, and that is where you dig in. Ask how exactly the mechanism is similar, whether the overlap actually matters, what is still distinctive about your idea, or whether changing one element would remove the overlap. Every run comes with three follow-up questions.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not score you, re-judge your idea, or tell you what to change. It does not suggest anyone copied you. It reports what the search found in that window, and it says plainly that it is not a guarantee nothing similar exists elsewhere, and not legal advice.

Choosing how thorough

Each run uses one of the three depths — Vantage, Fathom, or Quarry — and uses checks from your monthly allowance the same way a normal check does. Before you switch it on, you see a live estimate of how many checks it will use each month.

Who it is for

Anyone with an idea still in development: a manuscript you are months from finishing, a product you have not launched, a pitch you are still refining. The longer the gap between having an idea and releasing it, the more that gap matters.
